Benefits to Swapping to Natural Skincare: A Transformative Journey

Writer's picture: Jordan MiniJordan Mini

Swapping to natural skincare was one of the craziest changes I made in my eco-journey. I say crazy because it didn’t just transform my routine—it inspired a whole business, which is now a huge part of my life. Beyond that, the switch profoundly impacted my health, boosted my confidence, and substantially reduced my carbon footprint. These benefits are just the beginning, and I believe you'll find them both relatable and inspiring as you consider making the change yourself.

From Confusion to Clarity

As the maker of my skincare, I’ve extensively researched each ingredient to understand its true purpose in various formulations. This deep dive has made me a much more informed label reader in retail spaces. I’ve learned that while not all long, hard-to-pronounce ingredients are inherently bad, many are unnecessary. Maybe are just cheaper and easier ways for companies to produce a product than the natural route. Generally, the simpler and easier-to-read a label, the better the product. Back when I chose skincare based on cute packaging or a nice scents, I had no idea how many chemicals I was inviting into my home, the air I breathe, and onto my highly absorbent skin. To name a few, think fragrances which can hide thousands of toxic chemicals in its name, think formaldehyde - a known carcinogen, think PFAS or better known as "forever chemicals". Switching to natural skincare not only gave me more confidence in the products I use but also positively impacted my overall health as I am no longer flooding my absorbent skin with toxins.

Finding Confidence in my Skin Naturally

As a kid, I struggled with acne—it was the absolute worst. I thought it would phase out as I grew older, but nope... it stuck around. Honestly, I felt cheated and frustrated. I tried all those acne kits with their 3-5 easy steps, and while they initially seemed to work, the acne always came back, often worse, or brought new problems. When I was creating my first launch of soaps for Spriggits, I wanted to address this issue I’d battled with for so long. I turned to nature and discovered that rose kaolin clay and charcoal were

incredibly effective at managing excess oil and impurities. I formulated a gentle soap with these ingredients and added rosehip oil to help replenish my skin instead of stripping it like most facial cleansers. Slowly but surely, my acne began to fade. Natural products may take a bit longer to show results, but they truly work. In all my years, I hadn’t found anything that consistently helped—until our Rose & Charcoal soap. Prior to using my own formulated soap, my skin would be super dry from the stripping of harsh toners then

overproduce oil triggering more acne. It was a viscous cycle.

Once my acne was under control, I started using just water for my daily face wash and saved my face wash soap for when my skin felt extra oily, dirty (like after gardening), or sweaty from a workout.

My skin has never been this clear, and it’s done wonders for my confidence. This is just one example for how dozens of chemical filled products were not able to do what a handful of clean naturally derived ingredients could.

Hidden Dangers in Conventional Skincare

The feeling of knowing I’m no longer putting harmful chemicals on my skin—the body’s largest organ—is truly empowering. Growing up and into young adulthood, I used countless generic and big-brand skincare products, unaware of the hidden dangers. Many of those ingredients are now recognized as carcinogens, endocrine disruptors, neurotoxins, and irritants—just downright toxic. Imagine slathering on some "miracle" cream for years because it promises intense hydration, only to realize it might be contributing to mood swings and other health issues from the ingredient that is now a known endocrine disruptor. Now, contrast that with using our natural lotion bar—simple, clean ingredients that nourish your skin without the toxic baggage. The peace of mind and genuine results are unmatched, and it feels incredible to know I’m making a healthier choice for my body. Toxic ingredients being absorbed into my skin...that’s a reality I’ve left behind, and the peace of mind that comes with using natural products is priceless.

Reducing Waste - Lowering your Carbon Footprint

Natural skincare often goes hand in hand with less wasteful packaging. Brands that prioritize clean ingredients typically extend that philosophy to their packaging choices, aiming to minimize environmental impact. At Spriggits, we’re committed to this principle. Some of our products are packaged in certified compostable materials, breaking down naturally without leaving being plastic to sit in a landfill for hundreds of years. Others come completely package-free, reducing waste to zero. For items that do require packaging, we use materials that are 100% recycled and recyclable, ensuring they can be repurposed and stay out of landfills. You won’t find any plastic in our packaging—ever. By choosing natural skincare, you’re not just doing something good for your skin, but also often making a more sustainable choice that helps protect the planet.

The True Cost of Your Skincare

There is a common misconception that natural products are substantially more expensive than their lesser shelf companions. In some cases, this can be true as there are hundreds of options out there for both sides. Take, for example, my acne solution being 1 bar of soap at $7.50 versus the army of acne kits I tried, all around $30-60 each. Where the soap helped balance my skin and return it to a healthy and happy state, I don't even need to use it as often, meaning it will last me even longer. This example clearly shows a cost savings when solely looking at the money spent. Now consider the impact of that product on your health. What is that worth to you? Many of us spend hundreds monthly for insurance towards our health, not even our health itself. I would say that the confidence in the product's ingredient safety to me and my family is more important than the extra dollar or two I spend towards it if that was the case because, in the long run, that could be the difference between crazy mood swings ruining a vacation, or something more serious like an increased risk of cancer which could end your life. I don't say this to scare you! I say it to educate and help put into perspective the value of trust in clean ingredients for your skin and well-being.

The Value of Trust

As a small business owner in the skincare industry, I care deeply about the ethics and sustainability of the products I create. I know that when it comes to what you put on your skin, trust is essential. You deserve to feel confident that every ingredient in Spriggits products is carefully chosen with your health and the planet in mind. Big companies often prioritize your loyalty to them over their loyalty to you and your well-being, but here we take a different approach. When customers share concerns about ingredients or sustainability, I listen and adapt wherever possible. My commitment is to provide skincare solutions that are not only effective but also safe and eco-friendly. After all, your support enables me to continue this journey, and I’m dedicated to making products you can trust.

Is it Time to Start Your Natural Skincare Journey?

Change Starts with You

Switching to natural skincare is a change you can make at your own pace. If you prefer to use up the products you already have, that’s perfectly fine. But if you’re uncomfortable with the ingredients in your current products, consider passing them along to a friend who loves them, and start swapping items out for cleaner alternatives. When you make the switch, you’ll gain confidence in reading your own product labels, say goodbye to harsh chemicals, and start noticing the positive effects on your skin. By choosing natural products, you’re allowing nature to nurture you—and you’re also nurturing the planet by opting for more sustainable, eco-friendly options.
